Note: to make the old pal image more clear - here we experiment with the sketch filter at about 45% to produce a less complex image - less colors - that helps see the outlines better.

Name ID: Old Pal resting on friend - sketch image

Description:

A broader view of Old Pal, the fallen tree is complete and we see another fallen tree in the ground too below it. The image is sharper as the light was earlier.

14 km Tradewinds Trail - El Yunque rainforest PR exploration on  2013-02-01 for 1 week - Old Pal rests on tree while the main tree holds on another decaying tree as base on the right - the cloud forest - before Maria - Historic. The floor is full of decaying matter and leaves. It is a smaller peak close to the trail and thus receives plenty of rain, wind and fog.

El Yunque rainforest is naked truth.

There death and life are in balance and not named as such.

Here a tree has an old pal that fell on it long ago and is decomposing. At the same time on the right it holds tightly around a another tree that was its base - but now is totally decomposed.

This was before Hurricane Maria in 2017. I went by here on 2019 (see blog on 3 day hike across EYNF) and the old pal is almost gone. The tree survived the hurricane 140MPH winds, but the grounds look like they were vacuumed. I was not able to survey well the damage.

The image was taken by Raul Garcia with 24mp  Canon rebel iso 200 at max resolution.

It is totally unmodified for the canvas, except for pixels. It is a documentary of the rain forest. Only on Instagram is the image modified for that medium.

Location: About and behind the 3rd shelter (1 hr) on Trade winds trail 14 km from PR 191 closed side. After Maria this trail has become very dangerous - trail not visible in most places.
